The 3 Little Pigs, A Classic - Three Disney Versions

For those of us of a certain age, our introduction to the story classic, The Three Little Pigs, could very well have been the Disney cartoon version.
And for those who have never seen Disney's version (maybe some of the very young) even they may be familiar with the song Disney introduced in this Silly Symphony cartoon.

"Who's afraid of the big bad wolf, the big bad wolf, the big bad wolf? Who's afraid of the big bad wolf? La, La, La, La, Laaaa!"

Like any storyteller, Disney did take some liberties with the original story.
Of course, the original wasn't a musical. And in the original story, pigs one and two get caught and eaten by the wolf.
Not to mention all of the things that happen after the wolf fails to catch the third pig.
And in the end, the wolf dies in the original version.

Not many books use the harsher, original tale of The Three Little Pigs.
Written forms of the story first started appearing in the 1800's.
For more information on the history of the Three Little Pigs check this link.

Disney has put out three cartoon versions of the three little pigs.
The first in 1933, the second in 1934 and the third in 1936.
The first version is the basic 3 pigs story sanitized by Disney.
The second cartoon is the three pigs doing a spin on the Aesop fable "The Boy Who Cried Wolf".
The third cartoon is a strange blending of the 3 pigs story and the story of Little Red Riding Hood.
I also included the Disney sing-a-long of the song "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?" as the last video.

If you have seen these cartoons before I hope that viewing them again brings back good memories.
If you have never seen these cartoons, I hope you enjoy them!

This post reminded me of a book called The True Story of the Three Little Pigs (Jon Scieszka). I remember really enjoying it as a child - it's a whole different take on the story!

Spiral, It's wonderful when a parent takes a tale and makes it special for them and their kids. Just what stories are for.

Rachel, I had forgotten that book! There are a lot of funny take offs on the three pig stories. A hawaiaan one, a desert one (3 javelina's) and quite a few more.

How wonderful! You've taken me back in time ... I read the original to my oldest grandson when he was little and he promptly informed me that 'it didn't happen that way, Gran!'.
